I’m a psychotherapist. And I’ve been a psychotherapy client for many years.
Therapists are always teaching people about self-regulation skills, in so many different ways: breathing techniques, changing thoughts, grounding skills, guided imagery, journaling, confiding in someone, etc.
There are so many ways to calm down! And we all need a toolbox of ways to calm down, yes?
Jin Shin Jyutsu is one of my most important self-regulation tools. As I’ve written here before, it brings me to my spiritual center, the core of self-regulation and calm. Every morning, when I wake up in a panic (for a number of reasons), I use JSJ to come back to my spiritual core and calm down and feel ready to face the day with a positive, hopeful attitude.
Every single morning, I practice JSJ, feel a thousand times better, and say, “Thank you, God.” Because I really mean that: Thank you for this miraculous gift of self-regulation.
This morning, I practiced a 1-Flow (the Prime Mover), right and left Lung Flows (letting go of grief and sadness), a 10-Flow (Love), and Umbilicus Flow (connection to Divine Mother). Wow, I cannot even describe to you the transformation that occurred in me as I practiced these flows. SUCH a miracle.
Thank you, God, for this gift of Jin Shin Jyutsu. I don’t know what I would do without it.
